VIDEO: Taranaki, the kiwi Fuji

The North Island of New Zealand has some impressive mountains, we can all agree on that. Mount Tongariro is the most famous one, but don’t forget Mount Taranaki in the southwest. I only found out about this one about half a year ago. Once I saw a photo I knew: I need to go here! This video shows you a Mount Taranaki hike that you can’t miss out on!

Mount Taranaki is a volcano and is the second highest mountain on the North Island. If you go for a little walk up, you’ll get the best views, as I explain in my post about Mount Taranaki.

It is about two hours up (perfect for the lazy people under us) and you get a cute little tarn and some picture perfect reflections. Photo time! Video time!

The Mount Taranaki hike in my video is up to Pouakai Hut. You first drive your car to the end of Mangorei Road and then you start walking. You walk about 1,5-2 hours up and you reach the hut. It doesn’t go all the way to Mount Taranaki, but will provide you with some amazing views on the beautiful volcano (with reflections!).
