Most Kiwis are reserved and will choose to speak to you or not if you ask them a question as a traveler on the street. They are friendlier in tourist areas where the help is usually foreigners on a work holiday visa.

I loved New Zealand and was completely amused and thrilled by so many of these things. Barefoot people in public places – check! Woman in a bathing suit and a towel in the supermarket in Wellington (a city!) – check! Nicest people I’ve ever met – check! It’s a great place to visit and an even better place to live I imagine.
